Vaccine Availability (and Lack Thereof)
Dear Members,
As the groups of eligible COVID-19 vaccination candidates expands, we have been deluged by emails and calls. We are hoping this short email answers some questions.
Now anyone over the age of 65 is eligible. Governor Cuomo also mentioned those who are immunocompromised will be allowed in this group as per federal mandate, however, he has not yet released the specific definition of what qualifies someone.
We do not currently have the COVID-19 vaccination and although ordered a month ago, the city is not giving us any timeline as to when we will be receiving it. As soon as we do get the email that our shipment is coming to us, we will send out an email ASAP to then start signing up. We are currently not taking names or putting patients on any lists to have the vaccine.
Right now, we recommend that if you are eligible you sign up at the NYS or NYC website - if we end up getting is sooner, you can always switch to us if you prefer. The sites are overwhelmed and hard to get into and appointments are months out. There is WAY more eligible people than vaccine availability. The State only obtains 300,000 vaccinations a week (if that) and millions of people are now eligible. They are still prioritizing health care workers who have not been able to get immunized. We understand your frustration with all of this, as we are frustrated as well. We are still closer to all being immunized. In the interim, stay safe, stay masked and stay socially distanced.
