More J & J Info
Dear Member,
We have further information to share with you regarding the clots that are possibly associated with the J&J vaccine. Firstly, to put it in perspective, we are including this chart above. The risk of having a clot with a Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is literally one in a million. 5 in a million people develop blood clots in their legs after a 12 hour international flight. You are much more likely to have a clot from COVID-19 infection than the vaccination.
We now know that all 6 patients were females between the ages of 18-48 years and the interval from vaccine to symptom onset ranged from 6-13 days. This reaction seems similar to the one that is being seen elsewhere with the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine. What is happening is a very rare and unusual adverse event that may be associated with platelet antibodies that are working against the platelets which induces a low platelet count. Their body attacks their platelets as if they were a foreign intruder. All 6 patients had low platelet counts. Low platelet counts usually cause bleeding but this time it has led to a condition known as thrombotic thrombocytopenia. Clotting while having a low platelet count.
THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR: If you have received the J&J vaccine in the past 3 weeks and develop SEVERE headache, SEVERE abdominal pain, leg pain (mostly calf), shortness of breath, or tiny red spots on your skin (petechiae), seek urgent medical care. We want to reiterate this is VERY RARE.
Stay Well!
